When Marco Luccio was about eight or nine years old, he drew a life-size character on the garage wall using a fat black texta. His sister walked in and gave him a stern telling off, but at the end of it she said, ”Great drawing!”
“I guess this was the first time it occurred to me that I must be okay at this,” says Marco.
Today, Marco Luccio’s artwork is represented in the State Library of Victoria, at Engineering Australia, and in many private and corporate collections both in Australia and overseas. He has shown work in more than 40 exhibitions in Australia and overseas and in 2003 was selected to exhibit in the prestigious Hutchins Award, the Fremantle Print Award and the Geelong Print Prize.

Marco works from his home studio creating paintings, drawings and small prints. For larger printmaking, he works at the Baldessin Press studio in St Andrews.
“The best thing about being an artist is being able to create something every day. It’s very satisfying knowing that I am doing exactly what I want to be doing with my life,” comments Marco.

Melbourne's CBD cityscape is the subject of Marco’s latest exhibition, entitled 'Movimento’. Marco has always been intrigued by the city. It provided his focus as an RMIT printmaking student and continues to inspire his work.
“My memories of RMIT are filled with wonderful images of working until late in the printmaking studio in Building 20, red brick laneways with pipes crawling all over them, the rooftops where I spent a great deal of time sketching and observing the changing face of the city skyline, and walking around nearby streets witnessing the dramatic changes in the built environment”.

The train trips from Mitcham to the RMIT City campus were also important. Marco would sketch strangers on the train and later turn them into paintings or etchings, or at times work on the metal plates while on the train.
